POST STROKE RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

Research Participation Opportunities

As part of our charter the Stroke Recovery Association is often approached to assist with research into post Stroke related matters. All research in which we participate is thoroughly investigated by the Executive Officer to ensure it is credible and undertaken by a reputable research body. Your participation is on a purely voluntary basis. For further information on any of the research projects below contact the Stroke Recovery Association.

  1. Griffith University Study – An investigation of Self Efficacy as a predictor of quality of life following Stroke

A PHD Student from Griffith University in Queensland is undertaking a research project which is looking at quality of life issues for the Stroke Survivor. The Research examines the relationship between self-efficacy feelings/beliefs and stroke outcomes. This research involves completion of a survey form with questions relating to your life since your Stroke.
  2. Conversational Therapy in Aphasia - Macquarie University

This research is attempting to research the effectiveness of Speech therapy practices on communication between the Stroke Survivor and the carer. Researchers will video-record a conversation between a stroke-affected person and their carer, then offer speech therapy, then re-examine and assess conversation again.
  3. Effectiveness of the Medication Pregabalin in Pain Management After Stroke – Royal North Shore and Gosford Hospital

Royal North Shore Hospital is involved in a study to assess whether a medication called pregabalin is effective in helping alleviate pain following Stroke. The treatment, pregabalin has already been shown to help alleviate these symptoms in patients whose pain is caused by other conditions. If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms and they are causing you discomfort and would like to hear more information about the 13-week study please call Susan Day, study nurse on 9926 6985 (Monday – Wednesday).
